What is Data Residency and Why Does it Matter to Me?

Data residency refers to the geographical location—whether a country or a region—where your hockey stick and toque, wait no, data is stored and processed. It’s a big deal in modern data management because it helps with regulatory compliance, boosts security, improves performance, and builds customer trust.

For organizations in regulated industries like finance, government, or healthcare, it’s essential that data resides in specific locations to meet internal data management policies and external regulatory requirements.

Atlassian Data Residency in Canada, Eh

Great news, Canada! Besides maple syrup, healthcare, and Timbits, you now have control over where your data lives, making sure it stays within a specific region. Before this, all Atlassian products were automated hosted in the global location.

Now, Atlassian lets you pick where your product data for Jira, Jira Service Management, Jira Product Discovery, and Confluence is stored within Canada, specifically in the Canada (Central) AWS region. This feature is available for Standard, Premium, and Enterprise cloud subscriptions.

May your data be more secure than a Mountie on duty and your systems run as smoothly as a Zamboni on freshly resurfaced ice. 🏒

If you’ve got questions about your data, please reach out, we’re here to help.

Existing Atlassian customers can view where their product data is hosted here
